Stardust's problem is the movie adaptation as the book is far more nuanced (Yvaine and Tristan do not have babies, Yvaine continues ruling after Tristan dies and the witch who originally set out to kill her at least gets a kiss of understanding from her intended victim. And a unicorn's head), even up to the relatively small story of Tristan's mother. The concessions made for the film were rather shameful, I think, especially because it tried to label itself as a 'misbehaving' fairytale.
