Some people in the writing industry are just rude. (Okay, some people everywhere are rude, but people in the writing industry will say things that other folks wouldn't DREAM of saying in a professional context.) I avoid working with rude people as much as possible: if they're slopping in their communication, chances are they'll be sloppy elsewhere, and I don't want elsewhere to be my words or my money.
