You know, I guess that makes me an "old adult." Or a "real adult." Or something. Yeah, my life lacks immediacy. Whatever that is.
In any case, I'm clearly someone who should not be reading YA ... I guess I should be reading Serious Lit'rature, trashy romances, or ladylike mysteries instead. And let's not forget traumatic memoirs by other Real Adults.
This attempt at categorizing is not good for 51-yr-olds like me, either. I don't need any more side-eye from people who see me reading Garth Nix or C.J. Cherryh or manga on the Metro.
You have to pay taxes, I have to pay taxes. If we lived in the same town, we'd likely be in line at the polls together. We would both worry about the kids who skateboard in the street in front of the houses, because we're adults and we have responsibilities. We're both grown up enough to do what we want as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else and we can afford it.
Why act like we won't read the same kinds of things?
This is one of the silliest things I've heard recently.
