I just thought I should note that even though I do blog about how much heterosexism sucks (http://gayinpublic.wordpress.com), I generally fall into the pro-Valentine's camp (thoughyuki_onna's post startled me with its repeated references to me by name!). My boyfriend and I don't let a bunch of homophobic idiots deter us from celebrating the way we want, or when we want - this year we even rescheduled Valentine's Day for this upcoming Thursday.
I think people in general make way too big a deal out of V-Day, which I've always seen as a fun reason to give your friends cheesy cards and get a box of candy and not much more. I realize there are plenty of valid criticisms of it - the commercialism, the sexism, etc. But I'm all about reclaiming holidays, traditions, and words, and I think the best way for me to feel validated by Valentine's Day is to just celebrate it my way.
