If treatment is forced upon the person regardless of their wishes, that's definitely saying 'you're not okay' -- because it is erasing the individual's wishes, forcing them to conform. If treatment is made available (and here's yet another can of worms regarding cost and accessibility), I don't see that this reflects badly ('not okay') on the individual.
You're right that I definitely should have made this distinction in my statement. Making things available to people for them to CHOOSE is different from forcing it - but to me it seems that when a writer creates a world and characters, they are in completely control (thus, making the decisions for that character within that invented world) and I am bothered when writers don't seem to explore instances when people would NOT choose these treatments/cures and why their decisions would be valid for them.
