Sorry for the late response - don't worry, hugs are always appreciated! The ep in question was Forest of the Dead, Donna was in this virtual world and ended up married to a stutterer. My main complaints were the utterly appalling way she treated him (interrupting him, saying he couldn't talk, etc) - I am quite a timid person but in the first few seconds after Donna met him she acted in such a way that if it had been me I'd have probably tried to slap her. I don't think the poor guy got to finish two words, never to mention a sentence, in the whole ep. And then it turned out his stutter was just there as a plot device so he couldn't say her name in time for her to realise he was real at the end...

I've seen worse portrayals (at least they didn't go the "sign of low self-esteem and shyness and cowardliness or other psychological flaws" route and they didn't cure it) but good god, someone having a speech disorder is not an excuse to treat them like a puppet! Interrupting a stutterer is one of the single rudest things you can do, and comments like "the perfect man - gorgeous and can't say a word" (paraphrased from memory) make me want to kill things.
