1. Why Coyote Doesn't Give Commandments - this might be the most hilarious commentary on Judeo-Christian ethics I've ever seen, not to mention a pretty darn good life philosophy.

2. Uh, does anyone know why Tor.com seems to have people reviewing TV shows? Not that I'm objecting, it's just a bit strange that a book publisher's site would have reviews of Criminal Minds and Pushing Daisies. Huh.

3. And I'm off to Connecticut for the weekend. Which, yes, means that God willing and the creek don't rise, I will be visiting the Book Barn. Plus, we have a box full of books to trade in for store credit. Wheeeeee! Hopefully the SF/F section will be open and back in it's native barn. Last time I was there, in July, it was closed down because the barn had to be inspected (it passed inspection) but the bureaucratic paperwork necessary to let them re-open it was not forthcoming. Boo, I say, boo!

4. I gave up on "Any Given Doomsday" and dumped it in the Book Barn bin. Maybe it'll entertain someone, but it was doing shit all for me. I haven't actually come across writing that was that fundamentally flimsy in a long, long time. The author has a bewildering way of trying to introduce characters and plot elements. And by bewildering, she has an "LOL Suprise Buttsex!" Methodology for doing so. The author sort of just kamikazes people into the story, which makes for Not Good Reading.

For instance, our heroine was saved at the beginning of chapter 12 by a magical turquoise necklace around her neck, that she supposedly wears all the time. Except, there's no mention of it at any time in the previous eleven chapters. When the hero was stripping off the heroine's clothing, it was not mentioned. When the heroine was contemplating the jewelry that another character wears without taking off, it was not mentioned.

I wanted to like a novel that used some off-the-beaten-path mythology, but in the end, DO NOT WANT.
