Yeah, it pretty much was. And the sad thing? This author seems to have some notion of social justice, they're just failing at it pretty damn hard with this. Because later in a chapter from said Asian character's POV, he notes that a white woman he's dealing with is the epitome of white privilege (actual words used).
I mean, come on. Why even make that statement like it's a good thing? If the author intended to address it or acknowledge it's skeeviness or something, maybe. But if it's just a throwaway descriptor why not say, "He had East Asian heritage, was very muscular and handsome". Ugh.
