megwrites: Reading girl by Renoir. (Default)

- The novel is still in progress. Slowly but surely we are getting there. I don't know why, but every single freaking chapter wants to start out looking nice and compact and expand like a sponge in water. I keep telling myself that it's okay. I can let the excess be an *editing* problem.

- I fear editing this novel. I would rather get a root canal, naked, while having spiders crawl all over me than edit this monster. And it is a monster. It ate my life, rawr.

- The more I read about the publishing industry and what it takes to get published, the more scared I get. If I had an good sense, I'd take up something easier. Like, you know, going to the moon using a pole and a good running start.

- I think people who tell me not to take rejection personally when it comes to submitting material are wasting breath and/or bytes. Telling someone not to take rejection personally is like telling somebody not to sneeze when they've got a cold. You get rejected - it frelling hurts.

- I think telling people not to act out on those hurt feelings, however, is a good idea. To quote a great movie: "Madonna, Madonna, Madonna!...but you keep it all inside."

- Don't listen to me. I'm full of crap. I have no idea what I'm doing. *hides under comfy blanket with secret stash of chocolate and comic books*. The world is scary and it can come in here and *get* me if it wants me.

- Florida just passed a law. I'm not allowed to shake my groove thing in public. This includes my car. Old ladies and children were adversely affected. We will say no more. I dunno what this has to do with writing, but it does (shush with your logic and your common sense).

- Oh, music! You great comforter and inspirer of writers. *hugs music*.

- I'll probably post more, but smaller bits. I definitely am going to have more than 13 chapters when this thing gets done.

- The author I'm currently reading (Sarah Monette) has a livejournal ([livejournal.com profile] truepenny). Hmm. Reading someone's novel and their livejournal. Is that stalking or flattery? Also, now I have to wonder how much different this novel ("Melusine", for the interested) would look to me if I hadn't discovered her LJ.

- In case you're wondering: so far, "Melusine" is takin' names like the teacher left it in charge. Also? Homoeroticism PWNS. Who's your magical daddy, boy? I would rec this thing. And it got jacket recc'ed by Jacqueline Carey, who also had the sexmagicpwn thing going on with her books (the Kushiel's Dart/Kushiel's Chosen/Kushiel's Avatar series). A more detailed rec will probably follow when I finish the book - if I'm not lazy or up to my EYEBALLS in chapters that don't want to finish themselves.

- Luke, I am your Father.

- That is all. Carry on. Nothing to see here.
