I'm still just typing in and revising the scribbles I put down in my notebook while in various airports on my Vegas trip.
The entire rewrite is starting to bother me, because I'm already up to 33,000ish words but I'm not that far along, plot wise, in the story. I keep telling myself that it's okay, that this is supposed to happen because I moved up a bunch of later plot points and characters closer to the beginning, but the ending will be less crowded and word-heavy because of this.
Oh, and I decided to steal the Progress Notes format from
madwriter with a few adjustments. I think I've seen others use this format before, as well. All I know is that I'm finding it very useful all the sudden
Project: Tower!Guy Story
Wordcount: 33,408
Goal: 100,000 words or less
Reason For Stopping: Needed new headphones. The old ones died valiantly, with the left earpiece grunting out a last "go on without me!" before fizzling into electronic oblivion. Got the cheapest new headphones I could find, which have turned out to be the most uncomfortable and stupid headphones ever. Oww. You suck, Magnavox. I need elf ears to keep these things on. Where were you planning to market these things, Lothlorien? They gave me a frickin' migraine and your website is no help. In fact, your site disavows all knowledge of the headphones and their product number. I know why now.
Exercise: Walking around on errands only. Body still believes it's on Vegas time. Blech.
Stimulants: None. Too warm for tea.
Other Chemicals: Naproxen for general aches and throbbing head.
Deadline: August-ish.
Mammalian Assistance: None. *sob*. I am a writer with no pets. *sob sob*
Darling du Jour: His thoughts were like water in a tilting jug, sloshing back and forth inside his head.
Reading Material: Urban Shaman by C.E. Murphy, Trial of Flowers by Jay Lake, and Years of Rice and Salt by Kim Stanley Robinson.
Things Learned/Discovered: I have really lousy handwriting, the female protagonist is probably going come off as kind of bitchy and hair clips can keep pages from turning themselves when the fan is going right next to me.
In other news,
fairmer's story Rampion In The Belltower is up at Les Bonnes Fees, which is a webzine for fairy tale enthusiasts. The story, and indeed the entire issue, can be accessed for free. Yay!
The story is so very, very (very!) good and I would definitely recommending chucking a few bucks to the 'zine or purchasing things from their cafepress store to help them out. They're worth it. The art, poetry, and fiction that I've devoured thus far have been top notch.
I really rather like it and I think it's going to become a new favorite of mine.
