I think I've figured out what a minor character is.

A minor character is a character who leaves. And when they leave, there aren't any loose threads. They come and go and it's all very clean and neat.

Like that line from the TS Eliot poem.

Let us do the Blue Highlighter Dance of Chapter Completion. Chapter 16 has been put to bed. It is down, it is out, it is DONE.

As a reward, I get new music.

iTunes and Chapter 17, get ready. HERE. I. COME.

What is a character that doesn't play a big part but it's sad when they leave and affects other characters' lives for good? Still major? Or is there an inbetween?

Not sure. Minor character is sort of supposed to describe how much action they get, not how important they are.

There should be an in between for minor and major characters. Like a major!minor character is what you described. And a minor!major character is one of those annoying ones that's around a lot but you're not sure why.
