Unfortunately, there are always going to be con kerfluffles. Some are worse than others-- the one you linked to has got to be one of the most horrifying examples of kerfluffle I've ever seen.

However, that said, most conferences, especially those geared towards the professional writer, are nothing like that.

And I promise, if you ever come to say, an RWA conference I'm at, I'll be your personal guide. Because seriously-- a good conference, it's an unbeatable experience with respect to regrouping and getting the writing juices in gear.
