If SF/F book covers really told the truth.
I think my favorite is Anne McCaffrey's "Mary Sue Gets A Dragon". I have to confess I was a fan of Anne McCaffrey in my younger years, but I was far more enamored of her Talent series (The Rowan, Damia, etc) than her dragon books. It was probably because I was more attracted to science fiction than fantasy at that point in my life.
Now I'm just the opposite, and I tend to prefer fantasy and it's various progeny over science fiction. This is not to say I won't pick up an intriguing sci-fi novel, but I find that I fall in love easier with fantasy books.
